Our Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Salta

Depart on your flight to Salta. Your guide will welcome you at the airport upon your arrival in the colonial city of Salta, in the northwest of Argentina, surrounded by mountains and the lush Lerma Valley. Salta is a city known for the friendliness of its people and for possessing the best-preserved Spanish architecture in the country. Later, you will be transferred to Finca Valentina, a charming country house at the foot of the Andes. At noon, you will participate in a cooking class where you will learn how to make traditional Salteñas empanadas, a fun culinary experience. You'll learn to make the dough, prepare the filling, assemble the empanadas, and cook them. And then, of course, you get to enjoy them as your first lunch in Salta! Later in the day, you can enjoy activities offered at the Finca, such as horseback riding on the property, a relaxing moment with a soothing massage, or simply spending the afternoon in the beautiful garden with a pool. In the evening, we suggest you to enjoy a gourmet dinner at Finca Valentina.

Day 2

Salta “La Linda” & Quebrada de San Lorenzo

Start your first full day in Salta with a nice homemade breakfast on the Finca. You’ll be able to try a selection of homemade sweets and cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals, homemade bread, cold cuts, and natural juices. As well as fresh coffee or tea! Your driver and guide will pick you up from the accommodation to head off to the center of the city. Then, enjoy a walking city tour that will finish in the MAAM. The Museum of High Altitude Archaeology in Salta, is a captivating institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the heritage of Andean indigenous cultures. Its remarkable collection includes the famous "Llullaillaco Children" mummies, offering a unique window into ancient traditions and customs. A visit to MAAM is a journey through time and a must for history enthusiasts in Salta. After that, we will stop for lunch and then we will have a short walk in the Quebrada de San Lorenzo. The Quebrada de San Lorenzo, is a striking natural gorge that combines rugged red rock formations with lush greenery. The narrow canyon path winds alongside the Rio de las Conchas, offering a tranquil escape into nature. This haven is teeming with diverse flora and fauna, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Nearby, the town of San Lorenzo beckons with its colonial charm and delicious Argentine cuisine, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a blend of natural beauty and cultural richness in South America.

Day 3

Salta - Cuesta del Obispo - Molinos - Cachi 

The road between Salta and Molinos is one of the most spectacular routes in northwest Argentina, passing through four different ecosystems, from a lush green jungle to a semi-desert region characteristic of the Calchaquí Valleys. We will get to Cuesta del Obispo, a stunning mountain pass in, known for its breathtaking Andes views, hiking opportunities, and refreshing high-altitude climate. It's a must-visit for nature lovers and those seeking a break from the city's heat. Don't miss the "Cruz del Mirador" viewpoint for spectacular photos and a chance to immerse yourself in the local culture. During the journey, you can spot condors soaring in the blue mountain skies, guanacos, and wild donkeys amidst thousands of giant cardon cacti, the local species of giant cactus. You'll have time to explore Los Colorados, a lesser-visited red desert, inside Los Cardones National Park. You will have time to enjoy a leisure lunch in Molinos before arriving to Cachi.

Day 4

Acsibi Caves Trekking Experience

Meet your local guide at the hotel lobby to continue to the starting point of our trek. You will hike for 4 to 4.30hrs through incredible landscapes that nature formed during thousands of years, leaving a trace of ancient lakes in different ice ages, which by pressure gave shape to the current Quebrada del Rincón that crosses the Campo Monte de Nieva and flows into the current Calchaquí River. Arriving at the Acsibi Caves is a truly exciting experience, these caves were made by nature to “seduce us”. These incredible formations will make you feel like you have landed on another planet. Upon arrival, you will see some large stone walls that become a kind of a natural labyrinth and as you advance, the river canyon narrows and through narrow tunnels you arrive at these reddish caves, from where you can appreciate this great gift that nature gives us.

Day 5

Colomé – Quebrada de las Flechas - Cafayate

From Colomé to Cafayate, the road is all gravel and passes through small towns populated by local winemakers and farmers. You'll traverse the Quebrada de las Flechas, a desert of quartz dust mixed with the silt of an ancient lake, eroded by the Andean winds into geometric arrowhead-like formations. Afterwards, you'll arrive in Cafayate, the capital of the Wine Region. It's the second-largest wine-producing city in Argentina but the highest vineyards in the world, thriving at 3,000 meters. During sunset, you'll explore the first section of the Quebrada de las Conchas, also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a 65-kilometer canyon of sedimentary rock formations from the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras (90-60 million years old). The characteristic red color is due to the presence of ferric oxide in its mineral deposits. The name "Las Conchas" comes from the abundance of colonial fossils of shells, fish, and mollusks, evidence of the ancient humid tropical climate that once dominated the area.

Day 6

Cafayate - Wine and Learning the Art of Weaving

We will start our day going to a Winery in Cafayate, the place by excellence known for its wine production. You will experience a outstanding wine tasting and gourmet lunch. After lunch, you'll be transported to a special location with breathtaking views to engage in some locally led experiences. Your cultural exploration continues as you immerse yourself in the art of weaving. A local artisan will guide you through the intricate process, teaching you the techniques and stories behind their beautiful creations. Through this hands-on experience, you'll not only acquire new skills but also develop a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship and heritage of the local community. Are you ready to create your own piece? After the experience, you'll spend the night at Cafayate.

Day 7

Cafayate – Quebrada de las Conchas – Salta

From Cafayate you will visit the Quebrada de las Conchas, which is a natural wonder that enchants visitors with its otherworldly landscapes. This dramatic canyon is a masterpiece of wind and water erosion, sculpting the rocks into surreal shapes and vibrant hues. As you journey through this geological marvel, you'll encounter rock formations like "The Amphitheater" and "The Devil's Throat," each with its unique charm. The reddish-brown canyons contrast beautifully with the blue skies, creating a photographer's paradise. Quebrada de las Conchas offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the raw power of nature and is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the captivating landscapes of Salta.

Day 8

From Salta "La Linda" to Purmamarca

After a leisurely breakfast, bid farewell to Salta and meet your private driver to take the road to Purmamarca, a small town nestled beneath the Cerro de los Siete Colores, with a route that winds through a deep gorge shaped by the erosive action of the Río Grande. The rest of the day will be at leisure.

Day 9

Heaven in earth: The stunning Salt Flats

Today you will visit the Salinas Grandes, a white desert at 3,650 meters above sea level, where the blue sky stands out against the immaculate white of the salt flats. These salt flats stretch for 100 kilometers on a flat saline plain, with depths of hundreds of meters. At sunset, you'll descend into the eastern foothills through Paso Lipán, a 33-kilometer winding descent towards Purmamarca, where you'll spend the night.

Day 10

Tilcara – Pucará – Uquía – Humahuaca – Hornocal

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a journey to Tilcara, home to the archaeological wonder of Pucará. This pre-Columbian settlement, briefly occupied by the Incas and now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, awaits your exploration. Your journey continues northward, following the legendary Route 9, which leads to the symbolic demarcation of the Tropic of Capricorn and its corresponding monument. Next, venture into Uquía, a destination marked by the 17th-century church of San Francisco de Paula. This ecclesiastical gem showcases the masterpieces of the Ángeles Arcabuceros, emblematic of the craftsmanship of the time. A highlight of your trip is Humahuaca, a picturesque town that lends its name to the impressive gorge surrounded by vibrant peaks. Here, you pay tribute to the Inca legacy through a visit to the monumental tribute. As the day's activities come to a close, your return journey takes you back to Purmamarca.
